Definition of psychology by Psychologists


Today, Psychology is an emerging subject all over the world. every person uses psychology in his behavior. According to psychologists, children’s behavior can be understood psychologically even in the educational setting. The definition of psychology by psychologists is dependent on time. If a person understands another person’s behavior, then the chances of mistakes are less.

Important Definition of Psychology

 

  • The study of the soul   In ancient times, psychology was known for mysterious phenomena. This concept was called the study of the soul. Psychology is derived from two Greek words psyche and logos. In brief, psyche means soul and logos means science. In ancient times, the subject matter of psychology was the should for a long time. It was impossible to study the soul, then the science of the soul was rejected. Plato, Aristotle, and Socrates considered psychology to be the science of the soul.
  • The study of the Mind    After the science of the soul, psychology came to be called the science of the mind. Philosophers and psychologists also rejected the soul phenomenon. Because even the mind could not be measured systematically with scientific methods. Pietro Pomponazi was the favor of mind related to psychology.
  • The study of consciousness     William Wundt separates psychology from philosophy. He says that psychology is the science of consciousness. Because consciousness can be measured systematically with the help of introspection. But subconscious and unconscious also have an effect on human behavior. So, the consciousness of science was also not accepted by psychologists. William Wundt and E.B. Titchener were in favor of the science of consciousness.
  • The study of behavior       From the 19th century onwards, the modern era of psychology had begun. William McDougall first called psychology as the science of behavior. human behavior can be measured from all three aspects of the mind ( conscious, subconscious, and unconscious). Hence, the aspect of the mind ( consciousness) was rejected. According to William McDougall and J.B. Watson, psychology is the study of human behavior.

According to branches, the definition of psychology

  • Consumer Psychology  The main objective of this psychology is to increase productivity. The customer problem is analyzed systematically. And then the customer’s problem is solved.  If the customer’s problem is not resolved. Then it has a negative effect on productivity. Therefore, Consumer psychology tells how to understand the customer.
  • Counseling Psychology    It’s a part of applied psychology. Counseling occurs between the client and counselor. The client reports his problem to the counselor.  And the counselor listens carefully to his problem. The client’s problem is not solved in counseling.  But the counselor recognizes the client’s ability and capability.  The counselor shows the path to solving the client’s problem.
  • Organizational Psychology    It understands human behavior in working situations.  Individual differences have priority in the group. Therefore, organizational psychology is needed. Because organizational psychology has to measure individual differences.
  • Criminal Psychology   In modern times, criminal psychology is in great demand. Because crime is increasing. And criminal psychology helps to find out the causes of crime. Psychologist systematically observes the behavior of the criminal.  And then prepares the criminal report.
  • Clinical Psychology       It’s part of applied psychology.  Clinical psychology works on mental health. And, it’s main objective is to diagnose and treatment of mental illnesses.
  • Experimental Psychology       Wilhelm Wundt started and develop experimental psychology.  And initially, he started work on reaction time. Because he wanted to measure the reaction time systematically.
  • Parapsychology    It’s the study of psychic phenomena.  The psychic energy of human behavior is very difficult to measure. So, it lacks repetition behavior.

 

Summary

On the basis of all the definitions, psychology predicts human behavior. Psychology was first believed to be related to the soul. And now systematically predict human behavior with scientific. But, psychology measures the behavior of both humans and animals.

Because the subject matter of psychology is behavior. So, everyone should read psychology. And people can get rid of problems from their life with the help of psychology. If mental problems increase, then should meet a clinical psychologist.
