Multi Dimensional Intelligence Theory

Intelligence is presented with the help of the intellectual functioning of the brain. The functioning of the brain is related to thinking, thoughts, and cognitive functioning. Intelligency of each person is dependent on individual differences. Some individuals have multi dimensional intelligence. And some people have low intelligence.

Intelligency includes acquiring new knowledge through the availability of resources, applying all experiences to solve problems, ability to creativity.

Sir Francis Galton was the first person who designed the test to measure intelligence. Before, Gardner studied all intelligence factors. And finally explained the nine intelligence factors. Howard Gardner’s Theory of multi-dimensional intelligence showed that persons have multiple intelligence.

Gardner’s Multi Dimensional Intelligence Theory

According to multi dimensional intelligence theory, Intelligence is the ability to learn according to environmental conditions, and experience, adapt to new situations, and use problem-solving techniques. All over the world, Human species have unique animals because humans can apply all the ability and capacity of the brain with the help of the availability of sources. According to Lewis Terman, “Intelligence is the ability to carry out abstract thinking.”

In 1983, Howard Gardner proposed the theory of Multi Dimensional Intelligence. He published the book,” Framework of mind: The Theory of Multiple Intelligence” and explained different types of intelligence in human beings.

Types of Intelligence

They are verbal intelligence, logical-mathematical intelligence, musical intelligence, visual-spatial intelligence, movement intelligence, Interpersonal intelligence, Intrapersonal intelligence, natural intelligence, and existential intelligence.

Types of Multi Dimensional Intelligence

1. Verbal Intelligence

Verbal Intelligence is of great importance in this theory. Because it leads to good communication skills and better performance in language skills- reading, writing, and speaking. They are able to debate, extrovert personalities, and open-minded processes.

    • Writers
    • Teachers
    • Leaders
    • Speakers
    • Lawyers

2. Visual-Spatial Intelligence

Visual Intelligence cannot base separated cannot be separated from multi dimensional Intelligence theory. Because it leads to good visualization power and process. They are able to good visualization in maps, images, videos, charts, graphical presentations, and others so on.

    • Astronauts
    • Artists
    • Pilots
    • Navigators
    • Security Officers

3. Movement Intelligence

This intelligence is also called bodily-kinesthetic intelligence.  Movement intelligence leads to good adjustability in body movement, physical control, and strong eye movement.

Example:- Occupation of Movement  intelligence Person

    • Dancers
    • Sports Person
    • Actors
    • Sculptor

4. Interpersonal Intelligence

This intelligency explains understanding other person’s feelings and motivational approaches. They are able to non-verbal communication, divergent thinking, creative, and emotional adjustment.

Example:- Occupation of Interpersonal  intelligence Person

    • Psychologists
    • Managers
    • Philosophers
    • Counselors
    • Sales Executive

5. Musical Intelligence

Musical intelligency leads to composing music, performing music with rhythms, tunes, and sound. They are able to compose heart-touch music according to situations of environmental conditions, film scripts, and scenes.

    • Musicians
    • Composer
    • Singer

6. Natural Intelligence

Natural intelligence persons are able to recognize the patterns found in nature and the availability of sources in the environment. They are interested in naturalistic phenomena and their environmental conditions.

Example:- Occupation of Music  Natural Intelligence Person

    • Farmers
    • Gardner
    • Biologists
    • Landscapers
    • Botanists
    • Zoologists

7. Existential Intelligence

This intelligence is a cognitive process in human beings. Existentialists see the image of the world as a big picture of humanity. And finding the solution to the big questions related to death, and the actual reality of human life. Socrates and Buddha are big existentialists. They were able to find the big problems and solutions.

Example:- Occupation of Music  Existential Intelligence Person

    • Philosophical Thinkers

8. Intrapersonal Intelligence

intrapersonal intelligent persons are able to establish good relationships with others. They are daydreaming and introspection persons.

    • Theorists
    • Scientists

9. Logical-Mathematical Intelligence

Logical-mathematical intelligence persons are able to think logically with systematic and scientific procedures.  They have used divergent thinking and try to solve the problem from different-different points of view. So, the person who has logical intelligence, now become a scientist.

Educational Implications

This theory explained that how a person chooses his occupation according to his interest. Because of success in the business on the basis of ability and capacity.  Therefore, it is important to recognize your potential. The person who likes music should work on music as a business. Because interest increases your dedication and hard work. Children should choose the subject according to their choice. Only then they will be able to be successful in their life.
